On the Monetization of Juneteenth

On the Monetization of Juneteenth

Hey ya'll. Happy Juneteenth!! I know I'm supposed to feel elation and jubilation over the FINAL freeing of our people from the bondage of slavery over TWO years after a WHOLE WAR ended; but I'm finding it hard to celebrate the decision of the US Government to mark the significance of this event by declaring it a Federal holiday. A couple of things are going on here. 1. People will still have to work. Black people, especially. As hard as it is in this labor market right now, and the real desire of black folks to stay employed is a struggle. MAAANNYY Black and brown people will still have work - essential work, in the COVID era. Second, do WHITE people know why they've been given the day off? Since the overwhelming majority, because there are more of them than there are of us, have decided that critical race theory in school isn't necessarily important, I IMPLORE my WHITE allies to teach your children at home the differences between us and how we have managed to sustain, maintain and thrive despite them. White people, now's your time to shine. Be present, go to the Juneteenth celebrations, as many times as we had to celebrate Columbus day with a festival in the park, go to a Juneteenth activity to really get a sense of what it is to experience the joy in being black in Murrica 2021. Lastly, I would say, that if in years down the line capitalists begin to have marketing promotions for the celebration for Juneteenth - how they monetized PRIDE - I'ma head out. White people think they slick. There should NEVER EVER be a correlation to spending, sales, DEEP DEEP Discounts, on the backs of black folks having LABORED literally for no pay, so ya'll can spend money. This isn't that holiday, bruh. This is why I'm not offering any discounts on merchandise during this holiday. If anything, you we have to pay exactly what this black business charges - for the culture. Stick to Presidents Day and Columbus day for your mattresses and car sales. PERIOD.

In any event; I'm very passionate about this. Keeping this in mind; HAVE FUN! CELEBRATE!! Eat good food and fellowship!! For the recognition I am happy, for the cause, I want them to do better,
